VTC Halls of Residence

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Accommodation Application

Q1. How many residential Halls are there in VTC?

There are two student residential halls in VTC, one in Tsing Yi, one in Pokfulam.

Q2. How many places are provided in the Halls of Residence?

The Halls provides around 900 residence places. The respective numbers of places provided (on double occupancy basis) are:

Q3. Who can apply for the Halls?

1. Full-time students studying Master Degree (WMG), Degree (SHAPE & THEi), HD and DFS programmes and non-local students.

2. Part-time students studying Degree, HD and DFS programmes. (Students will be required to move out if they are no longer VTC student during the accommodation period and all paid fees are non-refundable.)

3. Only full-time students from HTI/ CCI/ ICI can fulfil the eligibility of applying the Halls of Residence (Pokfulam).

Q4. Is there a specified residence period of the Halls?

Residence period of AY2023/24 is subject to verified payment of accomodation fee, please refer to Application for Residence for details.

 

For the AY2023/24, the residential period generally refers to the period from 1 September 2023 to 30 June 2024 (accommodation fees are paid in two instalments). Halls(TY) will also provide flexible accommodation plans according to students' needs. For details, please call to inquire.

 

Q5. How much are the Hall fees?

Hall fee payment will be calculated on pro-rata basis, no refund of accommodation fee will arise from late check-in or early withdrawal.

Note:

There are 2 installments for year-long residence with the monthly room rate.

The 1st installment for the period from September 2023 to March 2024 (7 months).

The 2nd installment is for the period from April to June 2024 (3 months).

Pro-rata hall fee will be counted for the check-in after September 2023.

Q6. When will be the payment due date of the Hall fees?

Students have 7 days for the payment after receiving the offer.

*The last payment due day for the 1 Sept 2023 Check-in and 2nd installment.

Q7. May I continue to stay in Halls if I quit my study in the midway?

Students will be required to move out if they are no longer VTC student during the accommodation period and all paid fees are non-refundable.

Q8. How will residence places be allocated? Can I choose my roommate?

Room allocation method:

 

1. Students can choose to indicate their preference for roommates who they would like to live with when submitting their application. HMO has the final decision on allocation of residence places.

 

2. Residents of the same gender will be randomly assigned to share a standard unit of accommodation consisting of two adjacent single rooms. Those who are studying at the same level and/ or programme of study will be assigned together as far as possible.

 

 

Residents may apply for room change after they moved in (application charges applied). Applications should be submitted to the respective Hall Management Office (HMO). However, there is no guarantee that such requests can be fulfilled at all times.

Q9. Is there any grace period for payment if I have financial difficulty?

Students who have financial hardship in settling the accommodation fee may consult the HMO for the application for deferred payment or seek support from the Student Development Office of respective campus. Application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Q10. In case I move out from Halls in the middle of the residence period, can the paid fees be refunded?

Accommodation fee must be paid in full by the stated payment deadline and is non-refundable. No refund of accommodation fee will arise from late check-in or early withdrawal.

Q11. What are provided in the Halls for student residents?

For AY2023/24, a standard unit of accommodation is a 2-person unit consisting of two adjacent rooms. Residents in the same unit will share a set of washroom and bathroom, with a single bed, writing desk, wardrobe provided to each of them. In addition to the above room facilities, the Halls also provide the following common facilities: common areas, multi-purpose rooms, pantries, laundry machines, etc.
